Events

In addition to weekly club runs and walks, the Lake County Milers host a number of events, including races and fun runs/walks, throughout the year:

The Tenth Annual Spring Has Sprung will be held May 20, 2012, at Coyote Valley Elementary School, 18950 Coyote Valley Rd., Hidden Valley Lake. Our signature annual event features a challenging 10K run and a 5K run/walk, plus a 1K fun run for kids and other family-friendly activities. The race takes place on a flat course for the 5K and a hilly, more challenging one for the 10K. The Milers’ Spring Has Sprung is among the most exciting springtime races in Northern California and a must for those who like a value-priced event where all pre-registered participants get a T-shirt and other race souvenirs. Plus, the top three winners in all age/gender categories receive medals, with other valuable prizes awarded to top winners, male and female, overall. You can sign up online, or for a printable mail-in registration form for this year’s race, visit this site a few weeks before the 2012 event.

Donut Run: Our annual early-spring warm-up 5K run/walk race (to be held April 28, 2012) is for those who want to achieve a new personal record or just check out the competition for the Spring Has Sprung. The race on a flat, paved course starts and finishes at Kelseyville’s Pioneer Park (5250 Third Street, behind Studebakers Coffeehouse on Main), with donuts, coffee and juice served afterward to all entrants. First-, second- and third-place medals are awarded to both men and women overall for both the run and walk, and in age/gender divisions for the run. All adults who register beforehand get a T-shirt with the logo shown at right (sorry, no T-shirt for youth participants ages 19 and under). Fees are $20 for adults (by April 9) and $10 for youths; $25 on race day (T-shirt not guaranteed). More than $970 of the proceeds from the 2011 race (as well as more than $100 in extra donations from individual participants) benefited the Christine Hanson Education Scholarship Fund, in memory of the beloved teacher in the Kelseyville School District for 28 years who was an avid walker. To register for this race online, click here (note: RunSignUp.com charges a service fee for all online registrations). Or print out our registration form and mail it in. You can also call Milers Activity Director Ginny Cholez at 707-279-8913 if you’d like one sent to you.

Crazy Creek Beer & Bratwurst Run: Our annual fall race, a 5K run and walk, took place Sept. 25, 2011, and featured an Oktoberfest-style theme, with bratwursts and beer for all adult participants (hot dogs and soft drinks for kids). Held at the scenic Crazy Creek Glider Port, between Middletown and Hidden Valley Lake on Hwy 29, the event also features kids’ races and activities. All adult participants get a souvenir T-shirt. Medals are awarded in gender/age categories for both the 5K runs well. Fees for the 5K are $20 for adults and $15 for youths 19 and under, with kids race fees at $10; after the cutoff date and on race day, all fees go up by $5, and the Milers cannot guarantee a T-shirt. (Milers get a $3 discount off their 5K fee.)

Turkey Trot: Our traditional fun run/walk (with short distances) on Thanksgiving Day morning in Hidden Valley Lake is free to all, with great raffle prizes and the opportunity to donate nonperishable food items to a local food bank.

Milers gather outside Kelseyville Pizza before the first pizza run of the summer of 2011.

Pizza Runs: These short and fun runs/walks (3- to 4-mile run, 2-mile walk) take place in the early evening on the last Friday of June, July and August. Free pizza for Milers in good standing follows each run/walk (members are on their own for drinks and side dishes). Mellow, friendly and untimed, these runs and walks are intended to keep members and their guests in touch over the summer, when vacations, trips, and family visits often take precedence over regularly scheduled runs and walks. Look for details about where and when each run/walk takes place on the Milers home page, or email President Jeanine Burnett (jmburnett2@mediacombb.net).

Club Runs/Walks: Every Saturday and Sunday morning, club members lead groups in short runs (3 to 4 miles on Saturday) and longer runs (6 to 12 miles on Sunday), as well as 2- to 3-mile walks on Saturday. Groups meet Saturdays in Hidden Valley Lake (in the parking lot next to Mountain High Coffee & Books) and downtown Kelseyville (outside of Studebakers coffeehouse on Main Street and Third), as well as Sundays in various locations throughout Lake County (announced in our weekly email news).
